A Midsummer Night’s Dream
In Ted Huffman's production, the magical realm of the elf-king Oberon is a place of poetry and mystery, a place of dreams and theatre at the same time. Here, it often takes only simple means to awaken the imagination: a moon, a ladder, or even a whimsical, mischievous spirit named Puck, who flies through the air in shorts and a top hat... FINITE
In their musical theater piece, Asia Ahmetjanova and Franziska Angerer reflect on our relationship with death and how we come to terms with our own mortality. Through poetic imagery, they create a communal ritual that bridges mythology and performance, seeking a joyful acceptance of this ultimate consequence of life.

Wagner described his SIEGFRIED as a "heroic comedy" which, in its balance between comic and tragic elements, remains the challenge for its directors to this day. In the final part of the tetralogy, the theatrical elements that define Stefan Herheim’s version of the RING come together for the grand finale: the concert grand piano, the white cloth, and, of course, the suitcases that have repeatedly created landscapes throughout the tetralogy. Our Children's and Youth Programme
We at Junge Deutsche Oper want to give young people access to the world of music theatre and open up a world for you in which there is something for everyone to discover. Concert formats, opera and music theatre can be experienced on the main stage, in the Tischlerei and in the foyer as part of school and daycare or in your free time with your family.

Richard Strauss: Intermezzo
In INTERMEZZO, Richard Strauss not only brought a story from modern life to the stage, but also – in a barely veiled manner – his own married life: a harmless mix-up causes his wife Christine's temper to flare up so much that she puts her marriage at risk. But is she perhaps suffering more from the fact that her husband cares more about his music than about her? In his production, now released on DVD by the Naxos label, Tobias Kratzer reveals the great and small abysses of a relationship. Conducted by Sir Donald Runnicles, the cast includes Philipp Jekal, Maria Bengtsson and Thomas Blondelle.

Ottorino Respighi: La fiamma
Impressive singing and colossal tableaux accompany Ottorino Respighi's last great opera LA FIAMMA, a dark story of intrigue, power struggles and an affair between a stepmother and her son. Director Christof Loy brought this musical drama masterpiece back to the stage of the Deutsche Oper Berlin in September 2024. The production has now been released by the EuroArts label on 20 June 2025 as a Blu-ray and digital audio release. Conducted by Carlo Rizzi, the singers include Olesya Golovneva, Georgy Vasiliev, Ivan Inverardi, Martina Serafin and Doris Soffel.

Jules Massenet: Hérodiade
Few female figures have inspired the art of the late 19th century as enduringly as the Judean princess Salome. In France in particular, writers, painters and composers were fascinated by this material and its blend of Orientalism and decadence, of eroticism and opulence. Jules Massenet also took up the story, although at the centre of his HÉRODIADE is not, as it was a quarter of a century later for Richard Strauss, the royal child-woman Salome, but her mother Herodias, the wife of King Herod. And while Strauss would later push open the door to the 20th century with his first operatic success, in Massenet's work, 19th-century grand opera celebrates one of its last triumphs, complete with pathos, posturing and a Hollywood-style script. Under the direction of Enrique Mazzola, you can hear Etienne Dupuis, Clémentine Margaine, Nicole Car and Matthew Polenzani, among others.
